The Novitiate Community at Our Lady of Fatima Convent, Durban North

Sister Ngan, Sister Dominique (Community Leader), Sister Ayanda, Sister Sifundo, Sister Zamadlamini, Sister Mathapelo, Sister Minh Ha and Sister Ann (Novice Mistress)

Who are these Sisters?

Sister Zamadlamini Dlamini

I am Zamadlamini Dlamini. I was born and raised in a small town called Dannhauser in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Searching for the truth in the spirit of St Dominic is my passion.

In my spare time I like to read, research, bake and jog. I am a social being, sincere, curious and open. The thing that strengthens me in my spiritual journey as a second-year novice is looking up to Mary and resonating with her essential role in the Church; in that way my faith is nourished.

Sister Ayanda Mvubelo

My name is Ayanda Mvubelo. I am a second-year Novice from Soweto, Johannesburg. Something brief about myself: I am an outgoing person who loves to read and do something active like running.

I am the Region’s Justice and Peace Representative.

Sister Mathapelo Shabalala

I am a second-year novice. My name is Mathapelo Shabalala (A Sotho name meaning ‘Prayer”). I grew up in a location called Duduza in Nigel. I come from a family of three children. I originally come from the Archdiocese of Johannesburg. I currently live in Durban North, in our Novitiate community. My interests are playing the piano, art and sewing. My aim is to develop these talents for future ministry. I started my initial formation in 2018 and I am hoping that next year I will make my first professions and enter the next stage of my training as a Temporary Professed Sister.

Sister Sifundo Mabaso

Fufu is my nickname! A precious name my beloved parents gave me is Sifundo Mabaso. I am 21 years of age.

I was born in Durban but spent my years of growing up in Newcastle, Kwa-Zulu Natal.

I love and respect my Catholic faith. I am a Newcastle Dominican Novice, eager to be of benefit to the Congregation by the grace of God. I am a loving, caring person who finds it easy to connect with people. God is my love and my Fortress through all.

Sister Maria Minh Ha Nguyen

My name is Maria Minh Ha Nguyen and I come from Ban Me Thuot City in the Diocese of Ban Me Thuot, Vietnam.

I am in my Canonical year as a first year Novice. So far in my vocation journey I am learning so much from the Sisters and I appreciate everything the Sisters teach me and how they guide me in these particular Dominican pillars: Prayer– Study – Service –Community activities and finding God’s will in my life.

Sister Ngan Nguyen

My name is Ngan Nguyen. I am in the first year of the novitiate. I come from Vietnam.

My first time in South Africa is a new and interesting experience. My journey so far is full of happiness, lessons, and excitement which I explore every day.

Accompanied by the Sisters, I look forward to my two years of novitiate.
