Sister Zedislava Killelea was born in Mayo, Ireland on 7 December 1894. She entered the Dominican Congregation in Launceston, England in 1921.

After her temporary Profession in 1923 she came to South Africa and soon after she was assigned to St Dominic’s Convent Boksburg where she remained for the following fifty years. In 1973 she was transferred to Villa Aquinas, Pietermaritzburg and in December 1979 she retired to St Elmo’s.

Sister Zedislava is remembered for her uprightness of character, her kindness to her sisters and especially to the sick. In spite of bad health she worked hard and long in the service of her community. Sister Zedislava will always be remembered for her devotion to St Martin de Porres and her cure through his intercession was brought to Rome as one of the required miracles for the canonisation of St Martin. The highlight of Sister Zedislava’s life was her presence at the canonisation ceremony in Rome and we pray that St Martin de Porres accompanied Sister Zedislava as she went to meet her Lord and Saviour.
