Final ProfessionSister Nontobeko Mabaso OP
On Saturday, 13 February, at Marian House in Boksburg, Sister Nontobeko Mabaso pronounced her Final Vows into the hands of the Region Prioress, Sister Stephany Thiel, who was representing Sister Felicity Cunningham, the Congregation Prioress.
In these unusual and unprecendented times, it was unfortunate that Sister Nontobeko could not be joined by her family and friends for this solemn and joyouos occasion. However, the Sisters of her Community surrounded her with joy and love to witness Sister Nontobeko’s final commitment to God, the Church and the Congregation.
Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr Martin Badenhorst OP in the Chapel of Marian House and the Community joined their voices in resounding praise. It was an occasion of great gratitude and joy. We rejoice that God has gifted us with new vocations, and give thanks for Sister Nontobeko’s generosity in responding to God’s call.
May God who has begun this good work in her, Himself bring it to fulfilment.
Sister Nontobeko makes the prostration in front of the Altar as the Litany of Saints is sung, invoking the intercession of all the Saints to witness this public act of consecration.
The act of protrating in the form of a crucifix symbolises the sacrifice of one’s life to God through profession of the evangelical counsels.
Sister Nontobeko professes her perpetual vows:
“I make profession and promise obedience to God, to the Blessed Virgin Mary, to Saint Dominic, and to you, Sister N.N., Congregation Prioress of the Congregation of Saint Catherine of Siena, Newcastle, Natal, according to the Rule of Saint Augustine and the Constitutions of this Congregation; and I will be obedient to you and to your successors until my death.”
