Justice Peace and the Integrity of Creation

JPIC Links Annual Conference 13th 15th May 2011 Emmaus House West Wickham Kent

Human Security v Military Might

This was an enjoyable weekend for me, especially as I had not been able to attend the Conference for five years.

A group of 28 Religious spent a pleasant and educational weekend together.

Each session began with a prayer and a power point presentation which helped us to focus of the reality of poverty and the destruction caused by arms- and, as we found out, the areas of arms, misuse of natural resources and immigration were all interdependent.

On Saturday our three sessions were facilitated by Pat Gaffney, Secretary General of Pax Christi. Pat’s words are always delivered with sincerity and with deep feeling for those who have no peace. We all became better informed by her input.

The Sunday Mass was celebrated on Saturday evening and on both Friday and Saturday evenings we watched video films depicting the realities of life in war torn and devastated countries.

The final session on Sunday morning was dedicated to listening to the experiences of some of the Sisters and Brothers both those who had lived dangerously for the faith, those who supported Justice and Peace by their prayer and those striving to live their lives in Congregations seeking new ways of spreading the Gospel.

This Conference continues to assist Religious to look deeper into JPIC issues and together to find a way forward as individuals, in the Spirit of our own Congregations and according to our own personal situation.
